Popular American YouTube streamer and internet sensation IShowSpeed has launched a major charity initiative aimed at supporting grassroots football development across Africa, with Liberia named among the 21 countries expected to benefit from the program.
The initiative, known as “The Africa Fund,” was created in partnership with the global football-for-good organization Common Goal and seeks to use football as a platform to create opportunities for young people across the continent.
According to information released about the project, IShowSpeed — whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr. — has already contributed US$50,000 of his personal funds toward the initiative, in addition to donations expected from supporters and partners worldwide.

Liberia’s inclusion in the fund comes months after the globally recognized streamer made a historic stop in the country on January 24 during his widely followed “Speed Does Africa” live-stream tour. The Liberia visit generated enormous online attention and exposed millions of viewers around the world to Liberian culture, football passion, entertainment, and street life.
During his visit to Liberia, thousands of excited fans flooded major streets in Monrovia to catch a glimpse of the internet celebrity as he interacted with young people, entertainers, football fans, and content creators. Clips from the Liberia leg of the tour quickly went viral across social media platforms, with some reports indicating that Liberia-related content from the stream generated more than one million views within a short period.
The streamer’s Africa tour itself became one of the biggest online travel and livestream projects involving the continent, covering nearly 20 African countries and attracting millions of global viewers. The tour blended football, cultural exploration, entertainment, and direct interaction with African youth communities.

Liberia’s selection for the Africa Fund has already generated excitement among local football stakeholders, many of whom see the initiative as a potential boost for grassroots sports development at a time when young players continue to face challenges including limited infrastructure, inadequate training opportunities, and lack of funding.
The fund is expected to support local football organizations and youth-focused sports programs working to create educational, social, and economic opportunities for disadvantaged young people through football.
Other African countries listed as beneficiaries include Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, and several others where football remains a major pathway for youth empowerment and social development.

IShowSpeed, who has emerged as one of the world’s most influential online content creators, has built a massive international following through livestreaming, football-related content, and high-energy public interactions. His Africa tour significantly expanded his popularity across the continent and strengthened his connection with African audiences.
For many young Liberians, the announcement represents more than just another celebrity project. It is being viewed as a rare opportunity for international attention to translate into direct grassroots support for football development and youth empowerment in Liberia.
