-Presidential Race Set for Showdown as Association Prepares for Key Leadership Elections
MONROVIA, Liberia – The Elections Committee of the Liberia Amputee Football and Sports Association (LAFASA) has officially released the final list of candidates cleared to contest in the organization’s 2026 Elective Congress following the successful completion of its vetting process.
In a statement issued on June 11, the Committee announced that all approved aspirants met the eligibility requirements outlined in the LAFASA Statutes and Electoral Code, paving the way for what is expected to be a significant democratic exercise within the association.
The upcoming congress will determine the leadership that will guide amputee football and sports development in Liberia over the coming years.
Presidential Contest Takes Center Stage
The spotlight is expected to be on the race for the presidency, where Richard Duo Jr. and Jonathan Wehyee will go head-to-head in what observers anticipate will be a closely contested election.
Both candidates are expected to present their visions for strengthening amputee football, expanding opportunities for athletes with disabilities, and enhancing the overall growth of the association.
The presidential contest is widely regarded as the marquee race of the congress and is expected to attract considerable interest from stakeholders across the amputee sports community.
Several Positions Uncontested
While the presidency will be fiercely contested, several other leadership positions have attracted only a single candidate.
Cooper Gbatah has been cleared unopposed for the position of Vice President for Administration, while Samuel T. Tengbeh will run unopposed for Vice President for Operations.
Similarly, K. Benedict Kollie is the sole candidate for General Secretary, and Morris Quoiquoi has been cleared unopposed for the position of Treasurer.
Assistant Secretary Race Draws Multiple Candidates
The most competitive contest outside the presidency will be the race for Assistant Secretary, where three candidates have been approved to contest.
Emmanuel Nyumah, Francis Fallah, and Emmanuel Brown will battle for the position in what is expected to be another closely watched election.
Their campaigns are expected to focus on improving administrative efficiency, communication, and support services within the association.
