Liberia Telecommunication Authority and Ministry of Information (MOI) on monetization of contents

MONROVIA The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has announced a national training program aimed at equipping Liberian content creators with the skills to monetize digital platforms.

The two-day training, scheduled for May 6–7 at the Bella Casa Hotel in Monrovia, will bring together 150 selected participants drawn from across the country’s growing digital content ecosystem.

Unlocking Digital Income Opportunities

According to the LTA, the initiative is designed to empower creators to generate income through platforms owned by global technology companies such as Meta Platforms and TikTok.

Organizers say the training will focus on practical skills, including content creation tools, high-performing content strategies, monetization pathways, and social media ethics.

The program targets a wide range of creatives, including comedians, storytellers, reaction video producers, and other digital content innovators.

Bridging the Monetization Gap

Officials noted that while social media platforms offer significant earning potential, monetization in many African countries—including Liberia—remains limited due to structural challenges.

“Monetization requires data protection laws, payment infrastructure, and advertising investment,” the release noted, adding that no African country currently meets all these requirements.

Despite these challenges, authorities believe the training will position Liberian creators to take advantage of emerging opportunities as digital ecosystems evolve.

Application Process Begins

The Ministry of Information’s Department of New Media is overseeing the application process, with interested participants required to apply in person between April 13 and April 17.

Applicants are expected to submit written statements outlining the type of content they produce and how the training will enhance their work.

Expanding Global Partnerships

The initiative builds on recent engagements between LTA officials and international partners. Earlier this year, LTA Chairman Clarence Massaquoi met with Meta executives in Lagos, Nigeria, while LTA Commissioners Patrick Honnah and Ben Fofana held discussions with TikTok representatives in Nairobi, Kenya.

These engagements, officials say, laid the groundwork for Liberia’s inclusion in broader digital monetization frameworks.

Driving Digital Entrepreneurship

Authorities emphasized that social media monetization has the potential to transform livelihoods by lowering barriers to entry into the formal economy.

“Social media monetization acts as a catalyst for digital entrepreneurship, allowing individuals to generate direct and tangible income,” the statement said.

Participants who complete the training will receive certificates, while provisions have also been made for live streaming to accommodate those unable to attend in person.

Looking Ahead

The LTA says the initiative reflects a broader national effort to harness technology for youth empowerment and economic growth.

With Liberia’s digital space rapidly expanding, officials are optimistic that structured interventions like this will help creators transition from content production to sustainable income generation.
