The National County Sports Meet has officially launched its first-ever Trophy Design Challenge, opening the door for Liberian artists and designers to leave a lasting imprint on one of the country’s most celebrated sporting traditions.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to modernize and strengthen the identity of the National County Sports Meet by blending sports, culture, and creativity through uniquely designed championship trophies.

Organizers are inviting creatives from across Liberia to submit innovative trophy concepts for football, basketball, and kickball — the three major sporting categories featured in the annual tournament.

According to organizers, the competition aims to produce trophy designs that symbolize excellence, unity, sportsmanship, achievement, and national pride while reflecting Liberia’s rich cultural identity.

Cash Prizes Announced for Winning Designs

To encourage widespread participation, organizers have attached attractive cash prizes for the top-winning entries in each category.

The winning football trophy design will receive a grand prize of LRD 60,000, while the best basketball and kickball trophy designs will earn LRD 25,000 and LRD 15,000 respectively.

The competition officially opened on May 25 and will run through June 4, 2026, with all submissions expected to close at 6:00 PM on the final day.

Submission Guidelines Released

Participants are required to post their trophy concepts on Facebook along with a detailed explanation describing the inspiration and meaning behind their designs.

Entries must tag the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Liberia Creative Council while also including the hashtags #MYSchallenge and #NCSMtrophy.

Designers are additionally required to submit their official entries through the competition’s designated Google Form portal.

Organizers say the process is intended to ensure transparency, broad public engagement, and equal participation opportunities for creatives across the country.

Blending Sports, Culture, and Creativity

Officials believe the challenge represents a significant milestone in the evolution of the National County Sports Meet by directly involving Liberian creatives in shaping the tournament’s future visual identity.

The competition also seeks to spotlight local artistic talent and promote innovation within Liberia’s growing creative sector.

“This is more than just designing trophies,” one organizer noted. “It is about creating symbols that future champions will proudly lift for years to come.”

The National County Sports Meet remains Liberia’s premier domestic sporting competition, bringing together counties from across the country annually in football, basketball, kickball, and other sporting disciplines.

Beyond sports, the tournament has long served as a platform for promoting national unity, youth empowerment, talent development, and county pride.

Organizers say the Trophy Design Challenge reflects a renewed effort to make the tournament more inclusive by giving artists and designers an active role in one of Liberia’s biggest national sporting events.
