The Liberian passport is one of 52 on the African Continent

-51-year-old Accused of Presenting Altered Liberian Passport for Renewal at Passport Division

MONROVIA, Liberia – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has charged and forwarded a 51-year-old man to the Monrovia City Court on allegations of passport forgery after he was arrested at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while attempting to renew a travel document authorities say had been fraudulently altered.

The defendant, identified as Jerome O. Glory, was formally charged following an investigation into an alleged forged Liberian passport presented at the Ministry’s Passport Division.

According to police authorities, Glory was arrested on June 15, 2026, after submitting a passport for renewal that raised concerns during routine verification procedures.

Passport Flagged During Verification

Investigators say the travel document, bearing passport number PP0125590, was flagged after officials discovered discrepancies during a review of records in the national passport database.

Police allege that the passport had originally been issued in 2021 to another Liberian citizen identified as Christine D. Farley.

Authorities further claim that the original biodata page of the passport was removed and replaced with a counterfeit page containing Glory’s photograph and personal information.

The alleged alteration was reportedly uncovered during a physical inspection of the document conducted by officials at the Passport Division.

Foreign Ministry Raises Alarm

The case originated from a complaint filed by Paul K. Ngafuan, Director of Passport at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after inconsistencies were detected between the information contained in the passport and records maintained by the government.

According to investigators, subsequent examinations confirmed signs of tampering, prompting authorities to launch a formal investigation.

The matter was later referred to the Liberia National Police for further action.

Defendant’s Explanation

During questioning, Glory reportedly told investigators that he had previously been issued valid Liberian passports and had renewed one of them while residing in South Korea.

He allegedly claimed that the renewal process was handled on his behalf by a lawyer whom he identified only as “Bah.”

According to police, the defendant stated that the lawyer facilitated the renewal while he was outside Liberia.

However, investigators said Glory was unable to provide contact information, documentation, or any credible evidence to support the existence of the individual he identified.

Authorities further noted that efforts to verify his account through official records yielded no evidence to substantiate the claim.

Police Warn Against Document Fraud

The Liberia National Police said the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to combat document fraud and safeguard the integrity of Liberia’s passport system.

Authorities emphasized that the issuance and use of fraudulent travel documents pose significant national security concerns and undermine confidence in official identification systems.

Police warned that individuals found engaging in passport fraud, document forgery, or related offenses will face prosecution in accordance with Liberian law.

The case has now been forwarded to the Monrovia City Court, where further legal proceedings are expected.
