The Sammy Surge School Soccer Tournament is in full swing at the JP Mitchell Field in Boy’s Town, bringing together eight schools in a knockout-style competition that combines sportsmanship, faith, and life lessons.

Now in its first edition for schools in Liberia, the tournament seeks to proclaim the gospel to students and players, teach essential life values, and raise awareness about staying away from drugs and substance abuse.

The semi-final matches are scheduled for this Friday, with the grand finale set for March 27, 2026.

The participating schools include JP Mitchell Public School, Samwa International School System, Rafiki International School, Mid-Liberia School System, Bishop Richard High School, Royal Home Academy, Dorcas School of Excellence, and ESEMI.

Sponsored by Surge USA, the winning team will receive L$25,000 in project funding, along with a trophy, medals, and certificates.

Beyond the field, the tournament also features the Sammy Surge Essay Writing Competition, where students are exploring the “Sammy Surge 3 Life Principles”: Study Hard, Play Fair, Help Others.

Winners of the essay contest will be awarded a medal, a plaque, and financial aid toward their next tuition.

Organizers say their inspiration comes from God Almighty, believing that sports is a universal language capable of uniting communities. With plans to expand into the Sinkor and Paynesville communities later this year, the Sammy Surge initiative continues to merge faith, education, and athletic excellence in Liberia.
