Liberia's Labor Minister Cooper Kruah

MONROVIA – The Government of Liberia (Gol) through the Minister of Labor, Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, who chairs the National Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force, has called for a nationwide collective initiative to combat the crime.

A Ministry of Labor press statement issued on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 and signed by E. Frederick Baye, Deputy Director of Communications and Public Affairs, quotes Minister Kruah as saying: “Trafficking in Persons remains a persistent and complex crime that undermines human dignity, social justice and development. As the Minister of Labour and Chairman of The National Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force, I wish to reaffirm the Government of Liberia’s commitment to combating trafficking in persons through policy reforms, institutional strengthening and multi-sectoral collaboration, we continue to work towards preventing trafficking, protecting victims, prosecuting offenders and strengthening partnership”.

The statement also says Minister Kruah made the assertion at the ‘Third National Action Plan Validation of The National Anti-Human Trafficking Task of Liberia at the Labour Ministry in Monrovia. He emphasized that the plan has been developed through consultative processes and built on the achievements and lessons learned from previous action plans and designed to address existing gaps, respond to emerging trafficking trends, and strengthen Liberia’s compliance with national laws and international standards. Minister Kruah added that the plan is anchored on the four pillars of prevention, protection, prosecution and partnership. Minister Kruah also urged stakeholders of The Task Force to enhance collaboration in order to achieve the core intents of the fight against Human Trafficking.

Also addressing the forum, the Commissioner-General of the Liberia Immigration Service Elijah Rufus, urged members of The Task Force to seek more financial and logistical supports for his entity to adequately protect Liberia’s porous borders against Trafficking -In- Persons.

Earlier, the Office Manager of ECOWAS Resident Representative to Liberia, Ambassador Josephine Nkrumah and Madam Irene Marshall, Assistant Minister for Gender expressed her organizations. continuous support to Liberia’s TIP programs. Assistant Gender Minister Marshall, emphasized the need for robust approach in tackling the TIP menace.

On his part, the Officer-In-Charge of The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Liberia, Mr. Serge Lenard, stressed the need for closer collaboration among local and international development stakeholders in intensifying the fight against TIP.

The Labour Ministry’s statement concludes that the one- day event was part of Government’s ongoing consolidation of several activities geared towards beefing up the campaign against the crime of Trafficking In Persons (TIP) across the country.
