The Liberia National Handball Association (LNHA) has reaffirmed its confidence in its current leadership, following an emergency Executive Committee meeting held at the Sports Commission headquarters on Broad Street.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the association reiterated its full support for the legally recognized leadership headed by President J. Aratus Larkpor.
Leadership Structure Reaffirmed
The LNHA confirmed that its leadership team includes:
- Varney Kawah, Vice President for Administration
- Samuel A. Hasay, Vice President for Operations
- Haji Musa Sesey, Secretary General
- Deborah Hiama, Treasurer
The association noted that its Executive Committee comprises more than 18 members, including representatives of referees, coaches, and affiliated clubs such as Sinkor Oilers, Mighty Rangers, and Bushrod Warriors.
Former President Declared Expelled
The LNHA used the occasion to caution the public and stakeholders against engaging with unauthorized individuals claiming to represent the association.
According to the statement, former LNHA President J. Mason Sweler was expelled from the association in 2018 and no longer holds any authority to act on its behalf.
The association stressed that any dealings with individuals outside its recognized leadership structure would be done at the risk of those involved.
Warning to Partners and Institutions
The LNHA further warned government institutions, corporate partners, and international sporting bodies to verify the legitimacy of individuals before engaging in official matters related to Liberian handball.
“Any entity that chooses to engage with unauthorized persons does so at its own risk,” the statement emphasized, noting that the association will not be liable for any financial or legal consequences arising from such engagements.
Commitment to Developing Handball
Despite the leadership dispute, the LNHA reaffirmed its commitment to developing the sport nationwide, with a focus on strengthening local leagues, training referees and coaches, and expanding opportunities for Liberian athletes on the international stage.
The association also urged stakeholders and members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious claims of representation to its secretariat on Broad Street.
The statement was issued by Secretary General Haji Musa Sesey on behalf of the Executive Committee.
