-Says “That Will Be the Talk of the Week”
MONROVIA – House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon has publicly broken his silence regarding widespread rumors surrounding his alleged romantic relationship with prominent Liberian businesswoman and presidential political advisor MacDella Cooper, openly acknowledging the relationship during a public event over the weekend.
Speaking Saturday at the State of District #11 Annual Report program in Montserrado County, Speaker Koon appeared relaxed and unusually candid as he addressed months of growing speculation circulating across Liberian social media platforms and political circles.
“Normally, as a leader, you are always tempted when you are out there. So, it is good to hold your woman side you,” Koon told the audience.
The Speaker then formally introduced Cooper by name while acknowledging that the relationship had already become the subject of national discussion.
“So, my own woman is coming. So, y’all can know her. Y’all have already heard the rumor, the people have worn the same clothes. Her name is Madam MacDella Cooper. So, it is not a strange thing,” Koon declared.
In perhaps the strongest line of his remarks, the Speaker attempted to dismiss criticism and controversy surrounding the relationship.
“I ain’t steal her. She herself ain’t steal me from anybody. That will be the talk of the week,” he stated.
Months of Public Speculation
Koon’s comments come after months of intense public speculation fueled by repeated public appearances, coordinated outfits, social media photographs, and growing online commentary linking both political figures romantically.
The rumors intensified in recent months after several Facebook users and political commentators began circulating photographs and videos allegedly showing the pair attending events together both in Liberia and abroad.
Some social media users repeatedly pointed to occasions where the two appeared in matching attire at public functions, further fueling speculation about their relationship.
The issue has since become one of the most discussed topics within Liberia’s online political space, with commentators divided between those praising the couple’s openness and others criticizing the public nature of the relationship.
Social Media Reacts
Following Koon’s latest remarks, Facebook and online discussion forums across Liberia exploded with reactions.
Some supporters praised the Speaker for openly acknowledging the relationship instead of avoiding the issue.

One Facebook commenter wrote that “at least the Speaker spoke honestly instead of hiding behind politics.”
Another social media user described the moment as “the first time a top Liberian politician publicly owned the rumors before the public could continue speculating.”
Others, however, criticized the Speaker’s comments, arguing that national leaders should focus more on governance and less on personal publicity.
Several online commentators also debated whether Cooper’s role as a presidential political advisor and Koon’s influential legislative position could eventually trigger political controversy or conflict-of-interest concerns.
Despite the mixed reactions, many observers noted that Koon appeared remarkably unbothered by the public attention.

MacDella Cooper Remains Influential Political Figure
MacDella Cooper remains one of Liberia’s most recognizable female political figures and philanthropists.
A former presidential candidate and founder of the MacDella Cooper Foundation, she has long maintained visibility in Liberia’s political and humanitarian sectors through education, women’s empowerment, and child welfare initiatives.
She currently serves as Senior Political Advisor to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
Over the years, Cooper has built a strong public profile through both politics and philanthropy, including her advocacy for vulnerable children and underprivileged communities.
Koon’s Growing Political Influence
Meanwhile, Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon remains one of the most influential figures within Liberia’s current political establishment.
As Speaker of the House of Representatives and Representative for District #11, Montserrado County, Koon has played a central role in major legislative and political developments under the Boakai administration.

Known for his strong political organizing abilities and influence within the ruling establishment, Koon has also remained at the center of several major national political debates in recent years.
‘Nothing Is Strange in Liberia’
Political observers say Koon’s public acknowledgment reflects a rare moment of openness in Liberian politics, where senior officials often avoid publicly discussing personal relationships.
“So, it is not a strange thing. Nothing is strange in Liberia,” Koon told the crowd while attempting to normalize public discussion surrounding the relationship.
His comments immediately dominated political discussions Saturday evening, with clips of the speech rapidly circulating across Facebook, WhatsApp, and other social media platforms throughout Liberia.
As public reactions continue pouring in, one thing appears certain: Speaker Koon was correct in predicting that the issue would become “the talk of the week.”
