
MONROVIA, Liberia – The Liberia National Handball Association (LNHA) is set to launch a week-long capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening the technical standards of handball officiating in Liberia through intensive training for 20 local referees and table officials.
The training program, organized under the leadership of LNHA President J. Aratus Larkpor, will run from Monday, July 6, to Sunday, July 12, 2026, with all technical sessions taking place at the Samuel K. Doe (SKD) Sports Complex in Paynesville.
The initiative forms part of the association’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of officiating and align Liberia’s handball referees and match officials with international standards.
International Support
The workshop is being implemented with the support of several international and national sports institutions.
Funding for the program is being provided by Olympic Solidarity through the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC), while the technical curriculum and certification standards have been developed in accordance with the guidelines of the International Handball Federation (IHF).
The training will also benefit from the collaboration of the Confederation of African Handball (CAHB), which has facilitated the deployment of an experienced international instructor to lead the program.
World-Class Technical Instructor
The week-long workshop will be facilitated by Mr. Coulibaly Yalatima Nanga, an internationally recognized handball expert who serves as a Lecturer-Observer for the PRC IHF/CAHB and Director General of OISSU.
Twenty carefully selected participants will undergo intensive theoretical and practical training focused on the latest updates to the IHF Rules of the Game, modern match management procedures, and best practices for table officials.
Daily practical sessions will be conducted at the SKD Sports Complex gymnasium, providing participants with hands-on experience in officiating and match administration.
Opening Ceremony
The official opening ceremony is scheduled for Monday, July 6, 2026, at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex.
The event is expected to bring together senior government officials, sports administrators, and key stakeholders from Liberia’s sporting community.
Special remarks will be delivered by representatives of the:
- Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS);
- Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC); and
- Liberia National Handball Association (LNHA).
The workshop underscores the LNHA’s commitment to developing competent referees and table officials capable of officiating national and international competitions while contributing to the overall growth and professionalism of handball in Liberia.
