MONROVIA – The Liberia Association of Indian-Trained Professionals (LAITP) has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Government and people of India on the occasion of their 79th Independence Day, applauding India’s decades-long contribution to Liberia’s human capacity development and bilateral cooperation.

In a statement issued in Monrovia, LAITP described India as “a dependable partner” whose support has empowered hundreds of Liberians through training, education, and technical exposure under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program.

“We, the alumni of Indian institutions, join in celebrating India’s remarkable journey of independence, democracy, and global leadership,” the statement reads. “India’s investment in Liberia’s human capital through the ITEC program has made a lasting impact,” added a senior LAITP member.

Over the years, Liberian professionals have benefited from scholarships and technical training in India in areas such as public health, ICT, agriculture, governance, and energy. Many of these alumni now serve in key positions across government, academia, and the private sector in Liberia.

The Association also recognized the contributions of the Indian Embassy in Monrovia and Ambassador Manoj Bihari Verma for their ongoing support in sustaining the Liberia–India partnership.

“India’s support goes beyond training—it reflects solidarity, development partnership, and South-South cooperation at its best,” said Mr. Alaskai Moore Johnson, Acting President, LAITP.

India, which gained independence from British colonial rule on August 15, 1947, has since become one of the world’s largest democracies and fastest-growing economies. Liberia and India share longstanding bilateral ties that date back to 1961. As India marks this national milestone, LAITP reaffirms its commitment to promoting closer ties between Indian-trained professionals and both governments to further enhance cooperation in key sectors of national development.
