ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – Young Liberian forward Joseph Melto Quiah made an immediate impression for New Mexico United, scoring on his debut in an entertaining 3-3 pre-season friendly draw against Atlanta FC on Wednesday at Isotopes Park.
Quiah announced his arrival in style by finding the back of the net in his first appearance for the USL Championship side, capping an impressive debut after recently completing his move to the club.
The goal marked a dream start for the promising Liberian striker, who will be hoping to build on the performance as he prepares for his first full season with New Mexico United.
Quiah joined the club following the 2025 campaign with Toronto FC II in MLS NEXT Pro, where he continued his development after being selected by Toronto FC in the third round of the 2025 MLS SuperDraft.
Before turning professional, Quiah enjoyed an outstanding collegiate career at the University of Dayton, establishing himself as one of the program’s most influential attacking players. Over 47 appearances, he scored 14 goals and provided 16 assists, performances that earned him recognition among Major League Soccer scouts.
Speaking after the match, Quiah expressed his delight at scoring on his debut, describing the goal as a memorable milestone in his career.
