MONROVIA — The Head of the Diaspora Office at the Executive Mansion, Williams, on Monday received Mohammed Kieta, President of the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA), during a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration between the government and Liberians in the diaspora.
Mr. Kieta was accompanied by Sondah Geepea-Wilson and Hannah Kwahmie, both members of ULAA’s Women Empowerment Team.
Focus on Strengthening Diaspora Engagement
The meeting centered on deepening institutional ties and enhancing cooperation between ULAA and the Diaspora Office, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to advancing diaspora participation in Liberia’s development agenda.
During the engagement, Hon. Williams provided the delegation with a comprehensive overview of the office’s mandate, ongoing programs, and strategic priorities aimed at harnessing the potential of Liberians abroad.
He also disclosed plans to launch the Diaspora Assistance Program, an initiative designed to support disadvantaged youth in underserved communities across Liberia. The program, he noted, will prioritize education, empowerment, and community-based interventions.
ULAA Commends Government’s Efforts
In response, ULAA President Mohammed Kieta commended the Diaspora Office for its proactive approach and strategic vision, describing its initiatives as timely and impactful.
He also praised President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for what he termed deliberate efforts to strengthen diaspora engagement and inclusion in national development.
Kieta highlighted several ongoing ULAA-led projects in Liberia, emphasizing the organization’s continued commitment to contributing to socio-economic development through partnerships with government institutions and local communities.
Diaspora Voting and Future Collaboration
The ULAA President further expressed appreciation to the Government of Liberia for advancing discussions around diaspora voting, describing it as a significant step toward inclusive governance and broader democratic participation.
Both parties agreed to explore additional areas of collaboration, including youth development, women’s empowerment, and investment opportunities for Liberians living abroad.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to sustaining dialogue and building stronger partnerships that leverage the diaspora’s expertise and resources for national development.
