Newly electred Liberia Football Association (LFA) officials

MONROVIA – Mustapha I. Raji has secured a third and constitutionally final term as president of the Liberia Football Association following his re-election during the association’s 30th Ordinary Congress held Friday, May 15, 2026.

Raji was elected on a white ballot, signaling overwhelming confidence and broad consensus among delegates and football stakeholders in his continued leadership of Liberian football.

The congress, which brought together delegates from clubs, sub-associations, and football stakeholders across the country, also resulted in the election of several new members to the LFA Executive Committee while retaining a number of incumbent officials.

New Faces Join Executive Committee

Among the newly elected members of the Executive Committee are Amos Tweah, Momo Tarnuekollie Cyrus, Christian G. Weah, Elvis Sirleaf, and Pokah Robert.

The newly elected officials replace outgoing Executive Committee members K. Jlayteh Sayor, Ivan Brown, Kelvin Bayoh, and Cyrus Yeanay as the Association begins a new leadership chapter under what many observers describe as a refreshed and expanded football administration structure.

Meanwhile, several incumbent Executive Committee members successfully retained their seats, including Sekou Konneh, Adolphus Dolo, Pawala Janyan, Anthony Deinuka, and Jodie Seton, who retained her position as Women’s Representative on the Executive Committee.

Full Executive Committee Lineup Announced

The Congress also formally announced the full list of officials elected to serve alongside President Raji during the next four-year term.

The elected Executive Committee members are:

  • Jodie Seton
  • Pokah Robert
  • Pawala Janyan
  • Momo Tarnuekollie Cyrus
  • Amos Tweh
  • Anthony Deinuka
  • Sekou Konneh
  • Elvis Sirleaf
  • Christian Weah
  • Adolphus Dolo

Football stakeholders at the Congress described the new leadership team as a blend of continuity and fresh energy capable of advancing the next phase of Liberian football development.

Meanwhile, Team Rochelle Woodson Calls for Unity

Meanwhile, Rochelle Woodson, Chief Executive Officer of Rovers Ladies, has pledged continued support for women’s football despite falling short in the elections.

In a statement issued following the polls, Team Rochelle Woodson expressed gratitude to football stakeholders, delegates, supporters, partners, and members of the football community for their encouragement and support throughout the campaign process.

The team emphasized that despite the election outcome, football itself emerged as the true winner of the democratic process.

The statement also congratulated all elected officials and called for unity, inclusion, integrity, and collective responsibility in moving Liberian football forward.

Despite the setback, Team Rochelle Woodson reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the growth and advancement of women’s football through equal opportunities, empowerment initiatives, and sustainable development across all levels of the game.

“We remain committed to serving Liberian football with passion, humility, and purpose,” the statement noted.

Raji Consolidates Influence in Liberian Football

Raji’s re-election further solidifies his influence within Liberian and African football administration.

Since first assuming the presidency of the Liberia Football Association in 2018 following the departure of former football administrator Musa Bility, Raji has overseen several structural and administrative reforms within Liberian football.

Under his leadership, the LFA completed construction of its first permanent headquarters, expanded support for women’s football, increased league prize incentives, and strengthened Liberia’s engagement with international football bodies including Confederation of African Football and FIFA.

Raji currently also serves as a member of the CAF Executive Committee representing the West African Football Union Zone A.

Football analysts say his latest victory reflects continued confidence among delegates in his long-term vision for the sport despite occasional criticism over governance, transparency, and financial management issues that have emerged during his administration.

Senator Momo Cyrus Among Key Winners

One of the most closely watched victories during the congress was the election of Senator Momo Tarnuekollie Cyrus, whose growing involvement in football administration has attracted significant public attention in recent months.

Cyrus, Chief Executive Officer of Wologisi FC, entered the race campaigning heavily on promises of football reform, investment in women’s football, youth development, institutional strengthening, and improved sports governance.

His election is widely seen as introducing a new political and administrative dimension to the LFA Executive Committee.

Several football stakeholders have expressed optimism that the inclusion of new members with backgrounds in business, politics, administration, and club management could inject fresh energy and broader strategic thinking into Liberian football governance.

Expectations Rise for New Leadership Team

The newly constituted Executive Committee now faces growing expectations from football fans, clubs, players, and development partners to improve league competitiveness, infrastructure, youth football systems, referee development, and Liberia’s international football performance.

Liberia’s senior national football team has struggled in recent years to qualify for major continental and international tournaments, increasing pressure on football authorities to strengthen long-term development structures.

Stakeholders are also expected to closely monitor how the new Executive Committee handles governance reforms, club licensing, women’s football expansion, grassroots development, and financial accountability within the Association.

As Mustapha Raji begins what is expected to be his final term in office, many football observers believe the next four years could become a defining period for the future direction of Liberian football.
